I am so glad to see that Raw Fractals-category (
[link] has grown so much. Many people post their new creations every day here. I started with fractals 6 years ago and sometimes I miss those days with Apophysis. You know, when you dragged that triangle there, and the other one there and voilá - a really neat thing appeared and you saved it.
But looking in to this category - I am so happy to see that there are people that are in that phase I was six years ago.
Some people might try out Ultra Fractal, some might try out Mandelbulb.... or Fractal Explorer... no matter what... fractal-artists are growing and very fast.
Why?
I have no idea really... I have one thought on it though... I think it has to do with the numbers. All you have to do really is punching a number... no pencil or brushes needed. All you really need to know is how to do it is: 1234567890 and then plus or minus... (now I am talking for UF and APO, no idea how mandelbulb or other programs works).
But essentially - all you need to know is how to use a keyboard and a mouse...
Kind of neat I think....
So way to go fractalists!! We are a growing kind of people!!

Since I love talking I'll tell you my story.
When I first came to dA in 2007, I had a few digital drawings to post. It was a new hobby.
After a few weeks I discovered fractals and *Rozrr introduced me to Apo then to FE. I liked them immediately for their magical side.
Later I made a club for fractal manipulations with Eva *Xantipa2 but it only lasted six months. It's still there ~FractalManipulations if you are curious.
I started exploring Photoshop. Eva helped me a lot. That's great to play with.
I went back to FE when everyone was making Talis (ducks) formula in autumn 2010. :devpharmagicien made Apo gradients available for FE. That was such an advance and made the programme more interesting for me.
I had tried UF but never understood how to use it.
This spring, F. Slijkerman made UF for Mac and I tried it immediately. To my surprise I could use it and I bought it. I think that Photoshop helped me to understand it because of the layers.
I really like the programme and it' so much faster for a clear fractal than Apo which drove me potty with the long renders. I don't think I shall ever go back to Apo although I like the aspect of flames. It's too long.
I don't watch the fractal category but I'm not surprised that it's growing. Apo is a good way to begin. Dragging the triangles is fun, you are right.
